Why FAIR Girls

The Reality We Cannot Ignore

Many people think trafficking mainly occurs in far-away places. That is a myth. Across Washington, D.C., Maryland, Virginia, and our nation, the most vulnerable residents including children face sex and labor exploitation every day. Their stories rarely make the news.

Trafficking is pervasive and deeply rooted, disproportionately affecting immigrants, low-income individuals, unhoused youth, and survivors of domestic violence. Limited awareness among law enforcement and the general public, combined with the fear and mistrust many survivors carry toward institutional systems, continues to prevent identification, intervention, and access to safety and healing.

This is not a distant concern. It is happening here, in our communities, among our neighbors.

20+ years | 2,000+ Survivors | 24/7

For over two decades, FAIR Girls has been responding to the urgent and ongoing need for survivor-centered services for individuals impacted by human trafficking across the Washington, D.C. region. What sets us apart is not any single program. It is our unwavering commitment to walking alongside survivors with compassion, innovation, and genuine support at every stage of their journey.

What started as a passionate conviction in 2003 has grown into Washington, D.C.’s only provider of both emergency and transitional housing for survivors of human trafficking — empowering survivors to rebuild their lives with stability, dignity, and hope.

How We Help

  1. 24/7 Crisis Response Line: Critical support for survivors and law enforcement around the clock. We offer immediate emotional assistance, connect survivors to essential services, and serve as a trusted resource for law enforcement agencies responding to trafficking cases.
  2. Drop-In Center: A safe, welcoming space where survivors can rest, connect, and access critical services including day respite, peer support, and workforce development training.
  3. Residential Housing (Vida Home): More than shelter — a place of healing and growth. Our residential housing provides trauma-informed care, life-skills training, and personalized support to help survivors regain independence and build a future free from exploitation.
  4. Case Management: Individualized, compassionate support from crisis intervention to long-term stability, with a focus on workforce development, housing support, and emotional healing.
  5. Prevention Education: FAIR Girls equips youth, professionals, and communities with the tools to recognize warning signs and take action — preventing exploitation before it happens and creating safer communities for all.

Why Your Support Matters

Over the past five years, FAIR Girls has experienced steady and meaningful growth — expanded housing capacity, deeper trauma-informed services, and broader prevention and education efforts throughout the region. This growth represents trust built with survivors, partnerships strengthened within our communities, and a growing recognition that survivor-centered, long-term solutions are the only way forward.

With your help, survivors can access safe housing, trauma-informed care, and the long-term support needed to heal and rebuild their lives. Every day, we remain committed to reaching more survivors, breaking cycles of exploitation, and creating lasting change. We cannot do it without you.
